Why use a Peripatetic Service?

The advantage of a peripatetic ophthalmology service is that your patients can be seen quickly in the comfort of your own practice. The service is convenient and can be used when you require it without any subscription required.

There is no requirement to invest in expensive equipment as all equipment is brought to your practice, this includes:

  • Slit Lamp Biomicroscope

  • Rebound Tonometer

  • Indirect ophthalmoscope

  • Direct ophthalmoscope

  • Colour Pupilography

  • Goniolens for performing gonioscopy

  • Corneal Vital Staining: fluoresceine and Rose-Bengal

  • Schirmer-Tear-Test Strips

  • Corneal AlgerBrush for performing diamond burr keratotomy

  • Operating magnification loupes

  • Surgical instrumentation for adnexal and corneal surgery

  • Vacuum immobilisation mattress for patient positioning

  • Cryotherapy

  • Electrolysis (Aberrant hair disorders e.g., distichiasis)

  • Camera and macro lens for ocular photography

  • Retinal Imaging

  • Corneal Bandage Lenses

This ophthalmic peripatetic service is cost-effective for both your client and your practice. For each consultation, your client will pay the practice the normal consultation fee in addition to an ophthalmic fee. Fees for general anaesthesia, hospitalisation and medication are retained by the practice. This means that the overall cost to your client is less compared to external referral and the practice retains revenue associated with the referral.

An additional benefit to this service is that there are no delays in receiving referral reports since all information related to your patient’s condition, treatment and management is recorded on your own practice management system.
