Why use a Peripatetic Service?

Our veterinary peripatetic service is an affordable and convenient way to access in-house advanced veterinary care. The service enables access to advanced procedures and specialised equipment without needing to travel to a referral centre, thus widening access and availability for discipline specific veterinary care.

Our model provides

  •  Pet owners with affordable yet advanced, quality, solutions for complex ophthalmic and medical conditions.

  •  Veterinary practices with the ability to extend their services available whilst avoiding significant capital investment in expensive equipment and training costs. This further provides valuable continuing professional development opportunities for vets and nurses working alongside advanced veterinary practitioners.

  •  Faster access to referral level care and interventions whilst keeping the primary care clinician involved in the care throughout the process.

How it Works:

A visiting advanced veterinary practitioner (the peripatetic vet) brings all necessary specialised equipment and consumables to the local practice to perform advanced diagnostic or surgical procedures on-site. Following this a full referral report is made available to the referring vet as well as the pet owner. Follow-up care is provided by the peripatetic vet in person or remotely.

The Ophthalmology Service

The ophthalmology service can be used for the majority of medical, and surgical ophthalmic conditions, for example:

- Eyelid and Cilia Abnormalities

- Corneal Diseases and Ulceration

- Tear-Film Disorders

- Uveitis and Glaucoma

- Blindness

- Ocular neoplastic conditions (Cancers)

- Cataract assessment

- Small Mammal Ophthalmology (Rabbit, Guinea pigs, rodents)

- Exotic Animal Ophthalmology

In some cases onward referral to a specialist centre for some procedures (e.g. cataract surgery). The peripatetic vet will remain involved and available for remote assistance throughout the process, including discussing all available centres.

The Internal Medicine Service

The medicine service is largely an advice led service which provides tailored individualised patient support and recommendations for many medical conditions which aims to improve patient outcomes in general practice via a collaborative approach to patient care.

The Endoscopy Service

The Diagnostic and Interventional/Therapeutic endoscopy service is a peripatetic service which allows endoscopy procedures to be performed in general practice at affordable prices. Both diagnostic endoscopy and interventional endoscopy is available. A Pre-endoscopy procedure consultation is performed prior to all procedures in order to assess patient suitability and discuss the patient specific plan.
